Visual Arts

Our school has an amazingly talented Visual Arts Teacher, Ms Gilead, who aspires to support each student in realising their artistic potential. Under her guidance, students explore colour wheels and colour creation, model with clay, learn a range of drawing techniques, envision their creations, and then produce them with purpose. In some cases, this is for personal enjoyment, while in others it may be for submission to local competitions.

We participate in the annual Hills Education Community (HEC) Arts Festival, where we display two pieces of visual art from each year level alongside the other nine primary schools. This event takes place in Term 4 each year and is very popular within the hills area. In 2025, Mount Helena Primary School hosted the event in our newly updated undercover area. It was a wonderful celebration of student work.

Ms Gilead also strives to have every child complete artwork for display in the Mundaring Environmental Art Awards. Our school is consistently featured among the winning and highly commended categories. Winners in each category are invited to recreate their artwork on a banner, which is then publicly displayed in the Mundaring shopping precinct each December. The banners remain on display until the following year’s competition. In 2025, the work of 15 of our students was recognised as exceptional, with students awarded banners or deemed highly commendable.
